The Energy Solutions Business (ESB) has been operating in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for nearly nine years. In that time, the business has grown dramatically by specializing in comprehensive combined heat and power (CHP), utility peaking, waste gases and prime power solutions.
As the business began to grow, its processes and procedures became increasingly complex. In response, the ESB team has spent the last 18 months mapping, analyzing and improving the processes used to deliver energy solutions to customers. Their efforts culminated in ISO 9001 certification, which will be very important to customers as ESB looks to maintain a competitive edge.
The first phase of the project involved a top-level mapping of the structures and functions within the business. The research revealed the breadth and diversity of projects within ESB. This became the starting point for a much larger project, done by a team drawn from seven functions. The team identified 74 “chunks of work” comprising 508 tasks and more than 1,000 documents.
The team worked with the British Standards Institute (BSI) to implement its new processes. The BSI Auditor, an expert in the automotive industry, was particularly enthusiastic; he noted that “the [ESB] process is one of the best-designed and best-structured processes that I have seen in my eight years of auditing.”
