Energy recovery technology reduces carbon footprint for Cummins-powered plant in Mali

A power plant in Mali is now more energy efficient thanks to a new energy recovery technology outfitted on existing Cummins rental generator sets at the site.

Cummins Middle East made the first commercial sale of the TurboGen™ technology when it sold two units to Dubai-based Smart Energy Solutions. A regular customer of Cummins Middle East, SES provides temporary rental power to its customers in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.

In 2015, Cummins and Bowman Power Group entered into a strategic partnership to integrate Bowman’s Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) technology with Cummins generator sets. The TurboGen technology converts energy waste from the exhaust stream into electric power. This results in a fuel savings of 5 percent to 8 percent, or up to 15 percent additional power, without additional footprint or maintenance costs.
